StraiTek prefers both a .STP/.STEP file along with a PDF. Solidworks files will have to be converted as they are not supported by our programming software. StraiTek can also accept .igs or .x_t formats. If a 3D model is unavailable additional NRE charges will apply to render the model for programming.

Yes, StraiTek does have 5-axis machining capabilities.

StraiTek can machine parts up to 28.00” x 18.00” x 8.00” and 10.00” x 8.00” x 6.00” in 5-axis. If larger part dimensions are needed we can subcontract or point you in the right direction.

No, StraiTek can machine a single-part prototype up to low-volume production runs. StraiTek does have a $250.00 minimum order charge. All tooling orders come with a 30-piece sample.

It depends on the material and depth of the feature that has a sharp corner. Straitek can EDM most features sharp in metal but can’t achieve internal sharp corners in plastic. We prefer parts that are designed with min radii that support available tooling.

Yes. On most occasions, we offer expedited lead times. However, expediting is not an option during busier times of the year or if the complexity of a project does not suit it. Please provide a need-by date when sending in quotes.

Although StraiTek cannot design your part, we can recommend changes needed to make a part machinable and or moldable. We can also recommend tolerancing and finishing.

Varies depending on part complexity and material cost. StraiTek can quote both options to show exactly where it becomes more cost effective to tool/mold a part. Once a tool is completed, the lead time to mold parts decreases significantly vs. CNC machining.

StraiTek will quote tooling in the most cost-effective manner based on customer requirements. This typically will be dictated by surface finish requirements, how many parts are intended to be molded from the tooling, and whether the tooling needs to be validated.

Yes. We can do a complete IQ, OQ, PQ validation along with Gage R&R. StraiTek does have a standardized qualification protocol template, but it can be tailored to meet customer requirements.

We do not offer this service in-house. We do work closely with several reputable companies and can get the desired analysis and reports, if required.

StraiTek is happy to pass along the learnings and valuable information from the prototype tooling phase to our customers’ high-volume production molders. This could include but is not limited to part aesthetics, problematic fill areas, visible sink areas, part sticking or ejection issues, unforeseen gas traps, increased cycle times, and processing parameters.

The largest mold size we work with is 10” x 12”, so we are limited to parts not exceeding roughly 6” x 6”.

Yes. We have a Class 10,000 Soft Wall environment that can be placed over our equipment for molding orders requiring cleanroom molding.
